Book Cover & Bookmark DIY Project

This project is so clever…. and absolutely adorable! You and your fiancé can individually (or together) chose a favorite book and go to town.  If you don’t prefer the ‘favorite book’ idea you can use journals or mini photo albums! And, as with most DIY projects, you have full creative rein over what color and pattern you would like to use.  This is an excellent way to tie together your color palette  or add pops of color to your reception.  Do you want the bridal party to have a bigger size than the guests? What about a different color or a different book for the ladies than for the gentlemen?  You could give the individual families their own separate patterns….  You could even apply this same project to other parties or showers.  The possibilities are endless!    But perhaps what’s most fabulous about this project is that  it doubles as both a favor and a seating card!

Christmas Caroling Party

It’s never too late to plan a party!  If you’re really wanting to get everyone together and love Christmas carols this party is perfect.  And– SUPER EASY!

Here is a perfect invitation for the occasion.

Keep the decorations light.  Subtle pops of light blue are perfect with ivory and tans.  With a relaxed atmosphere guests will feel more comfortable belting out the tunes.

But, just in case some of your guests are a little shy to share their vocal talent with the whole room, offering a cocktail might ease the stage fright.

There’s usually some part of a song that you might not be completely sure of the words.  This Christmas Caroling Songbook will help guide you. You can print off sheets for your guests.

As favors, hand out these adorable little boxes.  Just print out sheet music on some light blue paper and wrap!  You could even fill the boxes with a sweet holiday wish or a piece of fudge!

If you’re the more crafty type, or you have a little more time, try decoupaging the sheet music to an ornament.  This ornament is simple and classy and will remind your guests of your caroling party every Christmas.

DIY Paper Evergreens

The holidays are always a time to remember.  Many do-it-yourself projects are so versatile that they can be implemented into most any area of your social or personal life.  These paper evergreens can be given out as hostess gifts, used as a project for you and your friends to work on  (think centerpiece!), something you and your kids can create together (a memory and a keepsake to last forever) … or just for your own pleasure!

Tools & Materials

  • Adjustable circle cutter
  • Green card stock, from paperpresentation.com
  • Bone Folder
  • Scissors
  • Wooden skewers
  • Hot-glue gun
  • 1 1/8-inch (for small trees) and 1 15/16-inch (for large trees) wooden spools, by Woodworks, from craftparts.com
  • Gold beads, from tohoshoji-ny.com
Steps 1-3

Steps 1-3

Step 1 For large Christmas trees, use an adjustable circle cutter to make 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-inch-diameter circles from green card stock (for small trees, omit the 6-inch circle).

Step 2 Fold each circle in half 4 times with a bone folder. While circles are folded, snip off the tip of each piece, forming a very small hole in center.

Step 3 Place smallest circle on the pointed end of a wooden skewer (we used 12-inch skewers), letting the tip poke through the hole in circle. With a hot-glue gun, dab underside of circle, where paper and skewer meet. Hold for 10 seconds to secure.
Steps 4-5

Steps 4-5

Step 4 Working 1 at a time from smallest circle to largest, slide remaining circles onto skewer; secure with glue.

Step 5 Insert bottom of skewer into a spool; remove, and cut skewer to desired height (we cut ours to 6, 9, and 10 inches), keeping in mind that only spool should be visible beneath standing tree. Return skewer to spool; secure with glue. Add a dot of glue to top of skewer, and attach a gold bead.
